13th Annual Oregon Fallen Badge Charity Golf Tournament A Great Success
The charity supports surviving families of Oregon law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty
The 13th Annual Oregon Fallen Badge Charity Golf Tournament was a huge success at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club on Monday, September 9, 2024.
The charity tournament benefits agencies and surviving families of Oregon law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
The event is put on by the Oregon Fallen Badge Foundation which is a nonprofit created in 2011 to support law enforcement memorial services throughout the state to ensure fallen officers are given full honors and the highest level of tribute for their sacrifice.
The tournament took place at both the Witch Hollow and Ghost Creek courses at Pumpkin Ridge.
The tournament activities include lunch, dinner in the clubhouse, tee prizes, hole-in-one, closest to the pin, long drive, putting contest, and raffle.
Captain Shane Strangfield with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is a founding member of the Oregon Fallen Badge Foundation and President.
This is the 13th year of doing it out there at Pumpkin Ridge,” Strangfield said. “This is the tenth time we’ve done it on both sides cause we have built it over the years.”
“We plan to do fundraising for three deaths a year,” Strangfield said. “We haven’t had that many over recent years thankfully. But we also fill in any gaps from survivorship that they may have that pop up that it doesn’t cover. We certainly step up, when those are brought up and acknowledged.”
7 Eleven is the presenting sponsor but a total of 19 sponsors supports the event along with numerous other people who donate items for the raffle and prizes.
“It’s pretty awesome. I go to a few tournaments each year. This one has a special place in my heart, but this is the best tournament of the year,” Strangfield said. “The golf tournament and gala, there are a lot of survivors who come out to the event. It keeps survivors connected to the law enforcement community.
There are 256 players who golf in the event with 32 teams on each course.
“The survivor support, the community support, the business support its throughout the community,” Strangfield added. “It’s truly an honor and privilege to be involved.”
The Oregon Law Enforcement Ball and Auction is upcoming on April 26, 2025 supporting the Oregon Fallen Badge Foundation at Seven Feathers Casino in Canyonville, Oregon and is open to the public.
This tournament is an example of the power of the law enforcement community coming together to support one another and honor those in the law enforcement community who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
