Beavers take 2nd at OSU Invitational
Rylan Johnson took 2nd place after shooting a 62 on Monday, taking second place in the home event for the Beavers

CORVALLIS - Rylan Johnson, a junior Beaver shot a Trysting Tree course record on Monday as he shot a 9-under 62 in the second of two rounds at the OSU Invitational in Corvallis.
Johnson held the lead after the first 36 holes heading into Monday but ended up shooting a 74 on Tuesday to finish the 54th-hole event in second place behind Sam Renner of Washington State.
Johnson’s round of 62 was a personal record-low, surpassing a 7-under 65. This is after Collin Hodgkinson set the OSU single-round record with a 10-under 61 at The Tindall just a of couple weeks ago. That gives OSU the two lowest scores in back-to-back tournaments.
OSU placed second at the 54-hole event at Trysing Tree Golf Club with a 2-under behind UC Irvine who won at 4-under.
Johnson birdied three holes and posted a 3-over 74 over the final 18 holes to finish 7-under par, three strokes behind tournament champion Sam Renner.
Collin Hodgkinson tied for eighth place in the event for the Beavers. Hodgkinson posted his second round at par (71) at the event, equaling his first 18 holes. He entered the day tied for 10th but jumped two spots after tallying three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 16th hole.
Bradley Smolinski was one shot behind Hodgkinson. He tied for 12th after finishing at par for the third consecutive round. He did so on Tuesday after three birdies, totaling eight over the two days.
Brandon Eyre tied for 36th after wrapping up the event with a 5-over 76, and finishing at 6-over. Brody Marconi finished with an 8-over 79 on Tuesday and ended the event 71st.
When Johnson shot a 62 on Monday to beat the Trysting Tree course record, he recorded nine birdies in round two, including four consecutive from holes 10-13.
The Beavers men’s golf team will continue fall play on October 20-22 at the Williams Cup in Wilmington, North Carolina hosted by North Carolina.
The Oregon Ducks men’s golf team sent four underclassmen players to the OSU Invitational playing as individuals to get experience.
Jeffrey Kwak finished tied for 36th at 6-over while Daniel Bullen also tied for 36th at 6-over. Shams Jahangir Arshad, a freshman tied for 54th at 10-over. Tim Chang tied for 68th at 17-over.
