WALLA WALLA, Washington- The No. 4 George Fox women’s golf team won again Monday at the Confluence Classic with a total score of 590 (+14).

Rain was a factor but did not rain on the Bruins parade who won for the second straight Monday in a row to end the fall portion of their season.

While day one of the Confluence Classic was held at Veterans Memorial GC, day two was held on Monday at the links-style Wine Valley GC.

“The Confluence is different from other tournaments in that we play a different course each day and both are very different from each other also quite challenging.” George Fox coach MaryJo McCloskey said.

Entering the final round Monday tied with No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer, the Bruins shot 6-over as a team and would end up beating Pomona-Pitzer who took second place by 11 strokes.

“Just so proud of our entire team,” McCloskey said. “We were able to bring our full squad to this event and every single player fought hard in some very brutal rain and windy conditions today.

“It was a great opportunity both playing the difficult courses each day and competing against another nationally ranked team and getting it done. A nice way to finish our Fall season.”

Makensie Toole won the individual side of the tournament with a two-under 142. Toole had three birdies in the final round to earn the medalist. Toole now has six collegiate wins.

Alison Takamiya took second place overall with a 145 (+1). Takamiya had four birdies and five pars in the back nine- en route to her second-place finish. Takamiya won the NWC Classic last Monday, while Toole took second.

Liana Brown was fourth overall at the Confluence Classic and third for the Bruins. She started the back nine strong with two birdies and seven pars. On the front nine she had one birdie and six pars. Her total for the weekend was 147 (+3).

Brown took fourth place last Monday at the NWC Classic.

It’s the second straight week where George Fox had three players in the top-5 of the tournament, including the top two finishers.

“Big congrats to Makensie for picking up medalist with her two under-par rounds and to Alison for runner up and Liana for 4th. Three players in the top five is always exciting.” McCloskey added.

Rounding out the Bruin scorers was Ainsley Carter, who placed tenth overall and fourth for the Bruins with a 156 (+12).

The Bruins were 32 strokes better than their nearest NWC competition in Whitman.

The win gives Bruin’s head coach MaryJo McCloskey her 101st career win and the same for the program, as she started the women’s golf program in 2006.

“Our entire team is special though and they showed it today with their grit and perseverance,” McCloskey said. “We are all motivated for the spring season and will take all our great learning from this fall with us into the spring!! Can’t wait!”

We can’t wait either.
