Seattle, Washington - Lara Tennant made a great run at her fourth U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur at Broadmoor Golf Club in Seattle.
But in the end, after advancing in the morning round of 32 beating Julie Streng 3 and 1, she fell in the round of 16 to the number 2 seed Brenda Corrie Kuehn 5 and 4. Kuehn was the runner-up at last year’s championship and has competed in more than 55 USGA championships, including nine U.S. Women’s Opens.
“I am very pleased with my summer performance. The Senior Am is an event I always strive to play my best in and as much as I gave it my all, this year wasn’t my year,” Tennant said. “Broadmoor Golf Club was a beautiful and challenging course.”
Tennant became the first player since Carol Semple Thompson (1999-2002) to win at least three consecutive Senior Women's Amateur championships in 2021.
Four other women have four U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur titles and one has five, so getting that fourth championship, would put Tennant in rarified air in the 62 years of the championship.
Earlier this summer Tennant won the the Oregon Senior Women’s title which she has won four times. She went on to win the Scottish and Irish senior women’s titles this summer.
So despite being defeated in the round of 16 match play, Tennant can hold her head high and reflect on the many other victories she has had this year.
“I am proud to be from the Pacific Northwest,” Tennant said. “We host the best tournaments with the finest golf courses and the most wonderful volunteers.”
The U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur returns to Oregon at the Portland Golf Club, on September 26, 2026, where Tennant will have a chance to win this championship once again, this time in her hometown.
Tennant is a member of Waverley Golf Club, in Portland and played in the U.S. Senior Women’s Open that was hosted at Waverley in 2023 where she missed the cut by three strokes.
