WALLA WALLA, Washington - The No. 4 Bruins continue their fall success as they are tied after the first round of the Confluence Classic.
The Bruins just won their 100th tournament as a program less than a week ago at the NWC Fall Classic. The Bruins had a team score of score of 296 (+8) and are tied with the No. 4 Pamona-Pitzer Sagehens according to the WGCA poll.
For the second straight week, Makensie Toole and Alison Takamiya sit 1-2 on the individual leaderboard. However, Toole is in first place and Takamiya is in second.
Toole started with two birdies in the first five holes. The fifth-year senior went on to birdie one additional hole en route to her tournament-leading 71 (-1).
Takamiya had three birdies and three bogies ending the day in second place with a 72 (E).
Liana Brown, finished round one in ninth place with a score of 76 (+4). The senior had two birdies on the day.
Rounding out the scoring Bruins was Ainsley Carter. Carter shot a 77 (+5) on the day in a round that featured three birdies — including back-to-back birds on 14 and 15 — and seven pars. The senior's performance was good for 11th overall.
Right on her teammate’s heels was Samara D'Silva, who finished off the scoring five with a 14th-place finish with a 79, 7-over.
The Bruins after the tie with the Sagehens are 20 strokes ahead of their nearest competition in the host team, Whitman, with a score of 296 (+8).
While day one of the Confluence Classic was held at Veterans Memorial GC, day two will be held on Monday at the links-style Wine Valley GC.
The Bruins who won the NCAA DIII National Championship in 2023, continue to march towards another great season, as they have a win, and two second-place finishes this fall. One second-place finish was at the Saint Martin's Invitational where they beat out several DII schools.
George Fox finished fourth in the NCAA Championship in 2024 and likely will make a run at another title next spring.
