STANFORD, California- The defending NCAA DI National Champions, the Stanford Cardinals women’s golf team were off to a blazing hot start on Friday on the first day of the Stanford Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Course.
The third-ranked Stanford team has won four consecutive tournaments dating back to the 2024 postseason. Six other teams competing in the Stanford Intercollegiate are ranked in the top 25 by Clippd which is a testament to the depth of this event.
The Cardinals were collectively at 11-under after the first 18 holes Friday with Megha Ganne leading the individual leaderboard with a 5-under 66 which included seven birdies.
The Oregon State women’s golf team was led by senior Madde Lund who shot a 4-over 75 which was highlighted by two birdies on the front 9. Lund is from Skollersta, Sweden and is competing in her first event this fall after missing the three previous tournaments.
The Stanford Intercollegiate is once again supporting PlayForHer as part of an initiative to help raise funds in support of breast cancer research.
The Beavers finished the opening day with a 23-over 307 at the par-71, 6,278-yard Stanford Golf Course.
Raya Nakao, who had a scoring average of 72.05 as a true freshman last season, the best in Oregon State single-season history, finished a stroke back of Sund with a 5-over 76. She also had two birdies.
Junior Kyra Ly, who led Oregon State in the first two tournaments of the fall season, posted a 6-over 77. She also had a pair of birdies. Ly finished fifth in the Beavers’ most recent tournament at the Molly Collegiate Invitational.
Stanford as a team won the Molly Invitational by 18 strokes while Paula Martin Sampedro tied for first for her first collegiate win.
OSU true freshman Clara Alevag finished the first round with an 8-over 79, while sophomore Rebecca Kim posted a 10-over 81.
The second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Beavers will tee off beginning at 11:45 a.m. and be paired with Colorado.
There will be live scoring for the tournament at this link.
Expect the Beavers to shoot better as this tournament continues Saturday and finishes on Sunday. OSU has bounced back with improved play in every tournament so far this fall.
