PORTLAND, Oregon - The Portland Classic has a new title sponsor, The Standard who committed to a three-year run for the LPGA Tour event.
The Portland Classic is in its 54th year and is the longest-running tournament on the LPGA Tour, outside of the major championships.
The Portland Classic has lacked a title sponsor for the last two years, so it’s a welcome sight to see a new three-year deal with a major brand for a tournament with such history in the rose city.
The tournament will be called The Standard Portland Classic and is scheduled for August 14-17. The course will be announced at a later date. With this new title sponsorship, the event promises not only thrilling action on the course but also a range of community initiatives, family-friendly events, and fan engagement opportunities.
“The LPGA Tour is excited to continue the significant legacy of the Portland Classic with the support of The Standard as a new title sponsor,” said Ricki Laskey, LPGA Chief Tour Business and Operations Officer. “Since 1972, we have been proud of the history created in the Portland community, with the tournament boasting Hall of Famers and multiple major winners as its champions over the years. We look forward to returning to The Standard Portland Classic and showcasing the world’s best professional golfers on a global stage”.
The Tournament Golf Foundation operates the local tournament.
“We could not be more pleased that The Standard has chosen to Title our tournament”, said Mark Ganz, Board President for the Tournament Golf Foundation. “Their commitment, along with the ongoing support of our other dedicated sponsors like Regence, Umpqua, AAA, and Les Schwab are going to take this tournament to new heights over the next three years. We are very excited about what this means for our city and for women’s golf”.
The tournament had been held at Columbia Edgewater Country Club in recent years along with Oregon Golf Club.
Caroline Inglis is an LPGA Tour player from Eugene, Oregon, a former Oregon Duck, and a member at Columbia Edgewater who made some great runs at the event in past years including a hole in one. Inglis was a rookie on the LPGA Tour in 2017.
Gigi Stoll, from Beaverton also an LPGA Tour player in her rookie year, has made numerous appearances in the event along with other local players from Oregon.
Other Oregon invites in the 2024 Portland Classic included Victoria Gailey, of Tigard, and Yvonne Yu Qi Vinceri, of Redmond.
Kennedy Swann, the head pro at Tokatee Golf Club qualified at the Monday qualifier for the Portland Classic while senior Alison Takamiya of George Fox women’s golf team was a sponsor invite.
Past Portland Classic champions include Hannah Green, Brooke Henderson (2015, 2016), Annika Sorenstam (2002, 2003), Juli Inkster, Dottie Pepper, Amy Alcott, and Nancy Lopez three times.
