PORTLAND, OR - Cynthia Ong had just missed the last two golf tournaments for the Portland State women’s golf team due to injury.

But that didn’t slow her down when PSU hosted its first tournament in five years at the Portland State Invitational held at Columbia Edgewater Country Club Monday and Tuesday.

Ong sat in second play after the first 36 holes held on Monday, after firing two rounds of 71 1-under, to sit at 2-under overall one off the lead. It matched Ong’s career best round set last season.

On Tuesday, the final 18 holes of the 54-hole event Ong shot a 76 4-over to finish in fourth individually. She was two-over par and six shots behind the winner, Rivekka Jumagulova of Seattle.

Also posting a career-best was junior Bayler Brundage. She shot two-under par 70 in the second round - three strokes better than her previous best at PSU. With a total of 76-70=146, Brundage sat in sixth place after day one.

Brudage shot an 80 on Tuesday, making it the best individual finish of her career as well, as she tied for 12th.

As a team, Portland State finished ninth out of 10 teams competing. The Vikings shot 305-302-321=928. Wet conditions made it a more challenging scoring day for everyone.

Senior Tannica Porter tied for 38th among 66 players competing. Porter came in with 80-76-80=236. Sophomore Momo Udom was 41st with 76-80-81=237.

Junior Payten Shimizu was 48th at 241, and senior Avery Kageyama placed 52nd at 245.

Portland State has finished the fall portion of the season. The Vikings will return to play in February at the Mountain Classic Match Play in Palm Desert, CA.
