Palm Desert, CA – North Dakota State defeated the Portland State Women's Golf Team, 4-1, in the fifth-place match of the Mountain Classic Match Play on Wednesday at The Classic Club.

Boise State defeated Northern Arizona, 3-2 in the Championship match.

The Vikings, who got an upset win over Montana State on Tuesday, couldn't pull off the feat two days in a row against a talented Bison team.

Sophomore Momo Udom came away with the only win of the day for the Vikings. She defeated Hannah Dunk, 1-up, holding onto the one-hole lead for the final five holes of the match. Udom finished the Match Play 2-1 in her matches to lead the Vikings.

Cynthia Valerie Ong, also a sophomore, took her opponent, Norah Roberts, to the final hole before losing her match 1-down.

Boise State won the Match Play, defeating Northern Arizona, 3-2, in the championship match. Seattle beat St. Thomas, 3-2, in the third-place match.

Udom had a 2-1 record for her matches during the event while Bayler Brundage and Payten Shimizu were 1-2 for the Vikings. Udom, Brundage, and Shimizu all had four birdies over the three-round event.

The Match Play was PSU's first tournament of the spring.

They will compete again this weekend in the Alice and John Wallace Women's Golf Classic, hosted by Long Beach State. It begins Saturday and runs through Monday at Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert.
